Rolleston Coal Stacker wins 2006 ASI Qld Steel Award
The Rolleston Coal Stacker scuttled the opposition to win the 2006 ASI Qld Structural Engineering Steel Design Award at the gala ASI Qld Steel Awards dinner held on Friday 25th August at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.
The
award was accepted by the design engineer Hugh McKay of Connell Wagner
who was joined on the stage by the builder David Mutch of Monadelphous,
the steel fabricator Karle Vogt of Gay Constructions and the steel
detailer Mark Kelly of CAD Tech Australia. The project was seen as a
collaborative effort to design and build world class equipment
considerably cheaper than overseas competitors.
The judges
commented " The design is innovative and efficient. The project team,
the fabricator and workshop detailer have shown skills that would
normally be brought in from overseas, and should be commended for
producing a product that should compete on the world market."
